11 Fun Things to Do in La Jolla with Kids (for 2021)
"Built in the 1930s, La Jolla’s Children’s Pool was created as a family beach space, but since then it's been descended on by herds of seals and sea lions. Despite the pinnipeds' particularly pungent odor, tourists come in droves to see them larking around, swimming, fighting and mating. Visitors can get extremely close via a concrete platform surrounding the cove, and the seals don't seem to mind – but there's strictly no touching, feeding or selfies to be taken with the seals."
"Location: Harbor Island (across the Street from the San Diego Airport)Water slide: NoAdults only pool: No. This pool is on the list for people who need a San Diego airport hotel but would like a pool, too. Guests may watch yachts meander through the harbor and enjoy water views from the pool at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina."
"This hike will take you through unique rock structures, and at the end, you can enjoy the sunset from the beach (a sometimes nude one). Don’t forget to check out the Mushroom House too while you’re there. More: Photo Guide to Hiking the Ho Chi Minh Trail"
"Iron Pig’s lunch special costs $7.99 for half a large sandwich, side of your choosing and a pickle (the pulled pork on brioche with slow smoked beans is a great option), plus a $4 beer from around 15 off the happy hour list. The smoked taco trio ($9.99) and smoked brisket ‘mansalad’ are also noteworthy menu mentions."
"This was my first time trying Thai food and the food was sooooo good, like exceptionally good. Definitely going there again. The employees go above and beyond..."
"Located in Old Town, second oldest cemetery in San Diego had burials from 1849 to 1880. In 1933, the San Diego Historical Society restored in the cemetery based on descriptions and photographs, but over the years some of the boundaries have been moved to accommodate for city development. In 1889 a horse-drawn streetcar line was built through part of the cemetery, which later became San Diego Avenue."
"Featuring international artists, this is where you escape to if you’re looking for a life-like fairy tale. It’s one of the most interesting things to see in Escondido. Queen Califia’s Magical Circle has a maze, with walls made of black, white and glass mosaic tiles, a garden with native plants, phenomenal sculptures and a special golden egg fountain with a 24 foot (7.4 meters) statue of Queen Califia herself, with an eagle."
"Queen Califa’s Magical Circle is a special and enchanted garden, filled with brightly colored mosaic sculptures, inspired by California’s mythical and historical past. Hidden within Kit Carson Park, finding the garden is part of the fun. Designed by the French artist Niki de Saint Phalle, the mosaic garden features nine large-scale sculptures, a maze entryway and is encircled by a circular snake wall."
"Scenic mountain and ocean views can be seen from this unique watershed habitat. With the Escondido Creek flowing year-round, it provides a unique home for plants and animals. With 11 miles of trails, picnic spots and views, there are plenty of options to enjoy nature here."
"Moonlight State Beach in the seaside town of Encinitas is one of the most visited beaches in North County because of its spacious sandy area and fun amenities like fire pits, sand volleyball courts, and a snack bar. There's also a large section of the beach that is reserved exclusively for swimmers, so you can hang out in the water and not worry about colliding with a surfboard (if you want to surf, nearby Swami's Beach is known as the surfing mecca in Encinitas). There is a paid parking lot near the beach as well as free street parking around the entrance."
"This beach earns its name because residents in the early 1900s used to picnic under the stars here. Today, Moonlight State Beach is a popular beach choice with North County San Diego locals and visitors. A picnic area, restrooms, volleyball courts, tennis courts, equipment rentals, a snack bar and more are just a few of the conveniences offered here."
"If you go further north, you will find Moonlight Beach which is the state beach. It is very popular among the hotels around here and that’s because there are a ton of amenities for families here. You will find everything from picnic tables to fire rights to volleyball courts to equipment rentals."
